It certainly feels strange to see a Wonderbra and Calvin Klein underwear on show at MoMA—especially with Chuck Taylors close by. This waltz by means of Spanish style will then finish within the Palais Galliera with an exhibition dedicated to Mariano Fortuny, a too little-identified designer, who liberated girls’s our bodies with comfy clothes with his revolutionary techniques.

Fashion after Vogue is co-curated by Hazel Clark and Ilari Laamanen in collaboration with the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York and Parsons Faculty of Design, The New College, New York, with help from MAD’s Assistant Curator Barbara Paris Gifford and Curatorial Assistant and Project Supervisor Angelik Vizcarrondo-Laboy.
The exhibition will also include the work of photographer James Abbe, whose portraits current a candid commentary on early twentieth-century celebrity. The exhibition opens with underwear, then Rudi Gernreich’s 1970 interpretations of what style would appear to be within the year 2000—it’s knit jumpsuits, and, primarily based on Paris’s runways this week, he wasn’t that far off.
